It was held in the Study, the Center’s classroom-like fully-equipped
First, Michael Crupain of thedairyshow.com introduced Jeri Quinzio.
Jeri, author of Of Sugar and Snow: A History of Ice Cream Making
(California Studies in Food and Culture)talked about ice cream’s
history, from its beginning (unknown BTW) to the present.
Then Ben Van Leeuwen (below, R), of Brooklyn’s Van Leeuwen’s Artisan
Ice Cream, with its well-known and well-loved yellow truck, spoke and
conducted an ice cream-making demonstration (modern, of course).
Ben whipped up a batch of custard-based cinnamon-flavored ice cream.
This luscious cinnamon-infused cream mixture was placed in a modern
ice cream maker.
The end result (pre-freezing).
And finally, we enjoyed some of Ben’s unique artisanal ice cream.
The one on the left is ginger-flavored. YUM!
Thanks to all. The program was enjoyable. And tasty! HUZZAH!
